Cool short films by KCC students!

Every semester, KCC offers Digital Film/Storytelling (ART 157), giving students the opportunity to learn to make their own films, from start to finish. Check out, below, a few of the films completed during the Fall 2010 semester by Noah Murray, Jana Rothenberg (Makauwahi Cave), Gabriel Abrams (Perfect World), and Joseph Turner (The Ride). "A Safer Learning Environment" College Discussion January 19th at 12:00

All Faculty, Staff and Students are invited:

On Wednesday January 19th, Dr. Loulou Hong, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at UH Hilo will be giving a talk entitled "A Safer Learning Environment" at 12:00 in Technology 119. The presentation is scheduled for 1 hour, from 12:00 to 1:00, with another hour of discussion to follow from 1:00 to 2:00.

About the presentation:

Campus violence continues to be one of the most serious public health concerns facing college students. The incidents at Virginia Tech and other universities has increased our sensitivity to the issue, but what exactly can we do to decrease the likelihood of violence in our lives? Whether it is sexual assault, cyberstalking, domestic violence, or bullying, every member of the campus community has a role and responsibility to play in helping make a safer world for all. Please come join us for this provocative and interactive conversation about how we can all work together to end violence at Kauai Community College and beyond.

Culinary Students Bring Home the Gold

Congratulations to our four second-year culinary students who competed in the ACF sanctioned Culinary Student Salon and Culinary Expo last week.

Mac Alop brought home the Gold medal with a score of 37.5 out of a possible 40 points with his "Orange-Miso Marinated Opaka on Ara Imo, Oriental Mushrooms and Baby Bok Choy, served with a Snapper Fumet".

Karen Ramento entered the 6 individual plated desserts category, and won a bronze medal.

RJ Udaundo medaled bronze with his "Roulade of Snapper with Caviar Butter and Mushroom Ragout".

Our third bronze medalist prepared a "Coffee-Rubbed Rack of Lamb with a Phyllo Napoleon and Mediterranean Salad".

The Culinary Student Medalists will be demonstrating some of these dishes and giving out free samples at the KCC Community Farmers Market this Saturday 12/18 starting at 10 am. We will also have 2 delightful coffee drinks for sale to raise funds for the student competitors.
