Welina mai kakou,

On behalf of the Ka `Ohana o Kalaupapa nonprofit organization, I am excited that Kaua`i Community College and Kaua`i residents will have the opportunity once again to view this great photo exhibit that will be housed in the One Stop Center lobby from Thurs, April 10 through Weds, May 7 during business hours (7:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.).

The exhibit will open with a blessing at 12 noon on Thurs, April 10. A guided walk-through will be offered that same day, April 10 from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

On Sat, Apr 26, from 12 noon to 3:00 p.m., there will be a panel presentation/"talk story" with relatives and others who will share personal stories of their experiences with 'ohana who were sent to Kalaupapa because of Hansen's disease in the 1800s.

The exhibit and talk are free and open to the public, so please join us!

Ka `Ohana o Kalaupapa is a nonprofit organization that is helping to spread the word and educate as many as possible about the good things that happened at Kalaupapa. If you are interested in learning if your `ohana were sent to Kalaupapa, please email Valerie Monson, Coordinator at vmonson@kalaupapaohana.org. She and/or others will gladly research and send you information.

Spring Gourmet Gala: Mahalo for Your Contributions

On behalf of the Culinary Institute of the Pacific at Kaua'i Community College, I would like to extend our deepest appreciation and mahalo to everyone who helped make this fundraising event a great success. With your help, the tickets sold out in two weeks and in addition we were able to garner much needed sponsorships from our Kaua'i businesses.

Volunteering for an event of this size and complexity says a lot about all those who helped. Many months of intricate planning and organizing is rewarded when the music starts, the doors open and the guests are able to enjoy the greatest and latest in culinary fashion matched with the most delicious wine pairings; together with a fantastic silent auction & blind auction with prizes valued over $7,000! What a great gathering of happy faces and happy tummies!

Thank you for making this event an opportunity for our culinary arts students to work alongside the biggest names in Island Chefs, Alan Wong and Vikram Garg, as well as Kaua'i's best chefs! Because of your warmth and hospitality, these great chefs are looking forward to participating in next year's event.

We thank all the volunteers for making Kaua'i's signature event a great success and hope to see you all next year on April 10th!
