Join Visitor Industry Charity Walk to Benefit Kauai & KCC (5/17)

Aloha Kakou, KCC Students, Faculty, and Staff!

It is that time of year again! Time for the 36th Annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk on Saturday May 17. Why do it? Well, what a great way to unwind from all the hectic activities of the lead up to Commencement! Or how about the fact that our Nursing, Culinary, and Aquaponics programs have all benefited from the funds this walk raises. Or how about because this is a way to be part of our great community and benefit others in the process.

Pledge forms are available in the Chancellor's office. For more information about this event, call David Sosner and Maile Lewis at 808-246-5502.

And keep in mind that:
  1. Any walker who raises $35 in pledges will receive a Charity Walk T-Shirt
  2. Any walker who raises $35 in pledges will have their name placed in the drawing for door prizes at the event. They do not need to be present to win. There are dozens of prizes donated by a wide variety of businesses and hotels each year. They will also be eligible to win the grand prize, which is usually a stay in a hotel (either on or off island). I wish I could tell you what the prize will be this year, but we have not yet heard from the prize committee chair on that topic.

Fukushima and Kauai Conference at KCC (3/15)

KCC and Surfrider Foundation-Kauai are hosting a conference on impacts for Kauai from the aftermath of the March 2011 tsunami in Japan. The purpose is to provide scientific perspective rather than memorialize the event. Experts on ocean circulation and radiation in the pacific from UH Manoa and others will address:
  • How did it affect Kauai?
  • What debris came to Kauai?
  • Was anything radioactive?
KCC Marine Option Program students will also present their research that helped answer these questions.

Saturday March 15, 2014, in the KCC Cafeteria from 9am-noon.
