Recently you may have heard reports on the radio or in print about the Fire Ant, which has spread from South America to Hawaii. Until now the ant has not been on Kauai, but it has now been spotted in Kalihiwai. It is VERY important that we don't let it get on our campus!
PLEASE do not move materials--compost, soil, boxes, plant material etc. from the North Shore to KCC. If you DO have to bring something in (a box of materials for your class or something), PLEASE check it carefully. The ants are extremely small!
If you want to find out more about the fire ant, there will be a showing of a documentary in the PAC this weekend on the little but devastating critter. Here is more information.
Saturday, January 18th, 2014Thanks for doing all you can to keep our campus free of these pests!
