KCC with Kauai Backstory Presents Reading on Campus - November 22nd

KCC and Kauai Backstory are co-sponsoring a Reading of works by winners and runners-up of the 2010 Kauai Backstory creative competition, to be held Monday, November 22nd, in the Technology Education Multi-purpose Room, from 5pm - 7pm. This is the second year of this creative partnership.

Writers and Visual Arts artists at KCC! You are invited to read/present that evening. You will take turns, on a first-come, first served basis. Plan on a 5-minute session!

Who/What is Kauai Backstory? This is a venue for rigorous writing and thoughtful images with a view about Kauai. Year-round, an on-line literary journal is featured and welcomes high-quality writing and images from the public. Expression of all voices, images, and words are celebrated. The Garden Island News annually provides cash prizes to winners of the competition. For more information, contact Kauaibackstory.com.

Winners for 2010 include Jericho Panasuk for "Awakening"; Brian Doyle for "Konoa's Car"; and Laurie Barton for "For the Portuguese Buried in Peace at St. Raphael."

Great American Smokeout Event and Important Information

Kauai Community College in partnership with the Tobacco Free Kauai (TFK) Coalition will take part in the 35th American Cancer Society's Great American Smokeout to encourage smokers to make a plan to quit and to provide resources for smokers to know where to go for help on and off-campus. KCC and TFK representatives will be providing free quit kits and tobacco free and second hand smoke information to faculty, students, staff and campus visitors on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Cafeteria courtyard. For help to quit, contact the Wellness Center at 245-8307 to schedule an appointment.
