Aloha Faculty and Staff,

Are you making your summer plans? Consider spending a week participating in a program designed to transform your teaching and students learning. This year, we are embarking on our first Pacific Region Learning Summit hosted at Leeward CC. The Summit is provided in partnership with colleagues from De Anza Community College and Foothill Community College.

There are two tracks offered this summer:

  1. Transforming Instruction with Problem Based Learning
This track leads you through the steps required to add problem-based learning to your classroom. You will prepare a course that uses tasks from our online library  ( http://elc.fhda.edu/faculty/scenarios.html) or create your own PBL tasks, find industry volunteers to visit your classroom, practice facilitating student groups, and design feedback and assessment items for different levels of student work.
  1. iCourse Design (offered last summer)
This track takes instructors through the process of rethinking their course for online delivery. You will learn how to modify what you are doing in the classroom to delivery it effectively online. Online
learning is a different way of learning and participants will be taken through the process of process of shifting from traditional to online instruction.   For more information, please visit the website: http://sites.google.com/a/hawaii.edu/prls2010/ Cindy Martin Professor CC/Staff Development Coordinator Leeward Community College 96-045 Ala Ike Pearl City, Hawaii  96782 PHONE (808) 455-0483 FAX (808) 455-0471.
