Hakuoh University in Oyama City, Tochigi Prefecture, 50 miles north of Tokyo, offers a 10-day summer homestay program to 7 UHCC students (one per campus if possible) who have demonstrated leadership in their community and/or school and want to learn first-hand about Japan and its culture. Students selected for the program will engage in intercultural activities with Hakuoh students, study Japanese culture, visit historical sites, and present a capstone project that reflects the participant's experience in serving his/her community and/or school.

The Honda Scholarship for International Study is awarded to five University of Hawai'i Community College (UHCC) students who wish to study overseas and incorporate an international educational experience into their academic program. The purpose of this scholarship is to promote international understanding through support for international travel and study. Students are selected on the basis of academic excellence and a focused and well-developed proposal. The scholarship can be used to support participation in a formal University of Hawai'i study abroad/exchange program or a study abroad program sponsored by another US or foreign university.

Monbukagakusho Scholarship - Japanese Govt Scholarship
The Monbukagakusho (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science & Technology) in Japan offers a unique scholarship opportunity for students who wish to study at a Japanese senshu-gakko (specialized training college). The scholarship includes one year of intensive Japanese language study and two years of specialized training in a chosen field, from April 2013 to March 2016 at a selected senshu-gakko. Tuition, housing and airfare are covered and awardees are provided a monthly stipend.
