Kauai CC Weather Station

Current weather information at Kauai Community College is now available at www.weatherlink.com/user/kauaicc/. The Davis Vantage Pro2 Plus weather station, mounted above the roof of the Technology Building, monitors temperature, wind direction/speed, humidity, rain, barometric pressure, UV, and Solar Radiation. Data is uploaded every minute into a server at Davis Instruments and the data is archived for 800 days. Archived meteorological data can be downloaded for analysis using Weatherlink software. Current weather information at any Davis station across the planet is also available.

The project was started by NASA Space Grant Trainee, Kathryn Massaro, in spring 2010 and completed this summer by Jerek Barcelona, an Electronics Technology Intern. The Hawaii Space Grant Consortium funded the project. The console for the weather station is located in the Hawaii Space Flight Laboratory at Kauai CC (Technology Building Room 102). Meteorological data will be available to the operators of the laboratory as it tracks UHM’s LEOS (Low Earth Orbit Satellite) which is scheduled to be launched in 2012.

The data will also be useful to the agriculture program and students interested in doing meteorological research.
