  3. Dear Anonymous,

    Depending on the program you enter, basic to no Japanese is actually preferred. Programs such as the Freeman Foundation Community College Program actually take the scholarship recipient through a 1 semester intensive language program at Kapiolani CC, then 1 semester abroad. From there you could branch into other opportunities. There are lots out there.
