KCC 47th Annual Commencement

Mason Chock, President of Kupu a’e and 
of Kaua’i Team Challenge, Inc.

Student Speakers: 
Deborah Ponce and Taylor Stanton

Commencement Speakers

Key Note Speaker, Mason Chock
Mason Chock is a respected leader in our community and is the President of Kupu a’e, a personal development as well as counseling and leadership advancement program in Kaua’i. Additionally, Mr. Chock is the President of Kaua’i Team Challenge, Inc., an outdoor experiential education program specializing in outdoor, adventure-based therapy, team building and enhancing self-awareness. Prior to starting Kupu a’e, Mr. Chock was the Executive Director of Leadership Kaua’i, managing and facilitating the progress of annual classes and programs, specializing in coaching young people for success, self-empowerment, conflict resolution, safety certifications and goal setting strategies.

Student Speaker, Deborah Ponce 
Debbie Ponce worked for Aloha Airlines for 18 years and Coco Palms for 10 years. After the closure of Aloha Airlines, she attended Kauai Community College with the help of a National Emergency Grant for displaced workers of Aloha Airlines. She was a member of Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society and served one term as Treasurer. Debbie earned an AAS in Accounting at KCC, with a GPA of 3.95, interning at the Kauai Community Federal Credit Union in the accounting dept. Debbie then transferred to UH West Oahu earning a Bachelor's degree with Distinction in Public Administration, with a GPA of 3.93, again interning at the Kauai Community Federal Credit Union in the Human Resource Dept. She starts her Masters in Human Resources at UH Manoa this Fall.


Student Speaker, Taylor Stanton
Taylor Stanton is a candidate for an Associate in Arts degree in Liberal Arts. While attending KCC, Taylor served as Vice President of the ASUH-KCC Student Government for the past two years, Secretary for the Radio Club, and reporter for Ka Leo O KCC. Taylor plans on transferring to the University of Hawaii at Manoa in Fall 2012 to pursue a degree in Economics, and plans on returning to Kauai to own a business.
