October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM). This year marks the eighth year the United States federal government is promoting cyber safety awareness in their national campaign. The Department of Homeland Security has developed the "Stop. Think. Connect." campaign to engage and challenge us to practice and promote safe online practices.
In recognition of NCSAM, UH Information Technology Services will present a cyber security brown bags session, "Mind Your Ps: Passwords, Piracy, and Phishing", on October 11 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Kuykendall Hall on the Manoa campus. There has been an increase in compromised UH accounts, copyright violation notices (piracy) and phishing emails. In this session UH Information Security Officer Jodi Ito will discuss the problems, remediation efforts and outline strategies for protecting yourself online.
The workshop will be broadcast live to HITS sites throughout the UH System and on UH Manoa's Campus Cable TV channel 67. Register to attend at: http://www.hawaii.edu/training. You will need to login with your UH Username and password to access the site. If you do not have a UH Username, please contact Jodi Ito, (808) 956-2400.
