Makana Returns to Kauai

Don’t miss the return of Makana to the Garden Island on June 26 at KCC’s Performing Arts Center. Makana, Hawaii’s own world-class “slack/rock” guitarist/vocalist, was described by The New York Times as “virtuoso” in a 2009 article which went on to say “Makana provides a textbook illustration of slack-key guitar style – dazzling.” Esquire Magazine had this to say about Makana in 2003, “Slack key guitar music, indigenous to Hawaii, has been around longer than the blues and Makana is considered the greatest living player.”

Makana will headline the event with talented and versatile guitarist/vocalist Matt Bolton as the opening act. Matt, who lives locally and who has played across the country, was the guitarist/keyboard/vocalist for Todd Rundgren’s 2008 Arena Tour through the US and Canada. About Matt Bolton, Todd Rundgren has said, “I knew Matt was a player- that's why I hired him. But it wasn't until I saw him do his own thing that I realized what an entertainer he is. Kauai is justifiably proud of this local export."

This terrific evening of music from 7:00 pm – 9:30 pm, will begin with a Silent Auction when doors open at 6:00 pm. Seating will be general - first come, first-served. The concert is sponsored by Growing Our Own Teachers on Kauai, a 501(c)(3), tax-exempt organization which provides financial assistance to Kauai’s aspiring teachers in their final semester in the teacher education program at the University of Hawaii, Manoa.
