Newswriting (JOUR 205 - CRN 40116)
3 credits – Meets Writing Intensive requirement
Monday & Wednesday 5 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. - Room: LRC 124A
This introduction to the theoretical and practical aspects of news writing includes technical, legal, and procedural considerations. It provides practical experience in news reporting and news writing.
Prerequisite: B in English 22 or Qualified ENG 100.
METHOD OF INSTRUCTION
This course will be taught with a variety of methods, including considerable practical experience inwriting, small group sessions and e-conferences for discussion and feedback on assignments. There will be guest speakers from the press and field trips. Students will have story assignments that may involve fact-gathering and interviewing on campus or in the community. In-class, face-to-face and online presentation methods will be offered. ... Service learning will be encouraged through community engagement and participation in the campus newspaper.
Newspaper Lab (JOUR 285V - CRN 40344)
1,2,3 credit lab / Tuesday & Thursday 10:50 a.m. to 12:05 p.m. - Room: LRC 124A
Students in this course produce a campus newspaper. Production steps include interviewing, writing copy, editing and layout. This lab may be taken concurrently with JOUR 205 and may be repeated for up to 6 credits.
Prerequisite: JOUR 205 or consent of instructor. (EG: “B” or higher in ENG 22, or placement in ENG 100, or “C” or higher in JOUR 205.)
NOTE: Adobe Creative Suite Pro / InDesign used to design and layout campus newspaper.
