KCC Blood Drive Mahalo!

Aloha Faculty and Staff,

Thank you so much for supporting the Kaua`i Community College Blood Drive held on Monday, October 3, 2011 at the Student Life Center. The time and effort required was substantial and is truly appreciated not only by the Hawaii Blood Bank, but by the many families whose lives are positively affected by the "Gift of Life" generated by the KCC Blood Drive.

A total of 144 individual appointments were recorded with 20 no shows. Out of the 100 pint goal, a total of 87 pints were collected. Of these participants, 25 were listed as first-time donors with 31 deferrals. Although we did not meet our 100 pint goal, we are proud to say that since each unit of whole blood can be separated into three components, as many as 261 lives can be saved as a direct result of KCC's efforts.

We extend our gratitude to all for helping to make this important community program a successful one. Your generosity, commitment, and leadership really do make a difference for our community. Many people are alive today because of your efforts.

A special MAHALO goes out to the following:
ASUH-KCC Student Government – Refreshments and drinks
Sheri Amimoto – Refreshments, Chairs
Mel Bacio and the Food Service Department – Ice
Nelson Batalion – Refreshments, Massage Therapy Decorations and Ambiance
Kim O'Brien – Refreshments
Char Ono – Chairs and Hand truck
Patrick Watase – PA System

Professional Massage Therapy Instructor Virginia M. H. Dunas and her outstanding students: Tish Cowan, Colin Gibbons, Kathleen Macken, Paula Minotta-Kelso, Kuulei Palomares, Desiree Pia, Mililani Watson and graduate Patrick O'Brien for donating a full day of free chair massages that truly added a beautiful experience for all Blood Donors!

A GRAND SALUTE goes to the ASUH-KCC Student Government student recruiters Nelson Batalion, Moani Jaramillo, Nahoku Rabot, Eileen Ricardo, Herbert Semana and John Yadao for spending hours upon hours educating and encouraging students, faculty and staff to sign-up. Special thanks to Taylor Stanton, Ian Ross and Tristen Hedges for providing relaxation music. Mahalo to our set-up and break-down crew: Kaipo Chin, Crystal Cruz, Royce Kawamura, Julio-cruz Flores, Bradley Peralta, Cheyenne Shissler, Ty Yamashita and Lyle Ueunten.

And of course to the Hawaii Blood Bank professional team – Phlebotomists and Nursing Staff who flew in from Oahu to help make this all happen!

Until the next KCC Blood Drive…Mahalo Nui Loa!

Blood Drive

The KCC Blood Drive is scheduled for Monday, October 3, 2011 from 8:45 to 3:30 in the student lounge. At our last blood drive we collected a KCC record breaking 111 pints. That's 333 lives saved thanks to our blood drive. Once again our goal is set at 100 pints and we would love to break our last record. For that to happen, we need your help. Blood donors are needed every day in Hawaii. For every pint of blood donated, up to three lives can be saved. All blood collected at our blood drive stays in Hawaii. Want to donate but can't due to health reasons? Food and beverage donations are always welcomed.

The KCC blood drive is known by many as the best blood drive on the island because we have a great environment, friendly faces, great food, and massages. That's right, Virginia and her massage students plan on being there to offer complimentary thank you chair massages to our donors.

KCC April 2010 Blood Drive Results

We want to share exciting news! We have exceeded our goal of 90 pints of blood. The total pints collected at the student lounge on Tuesday, April 7, 2010, was 111 pints, demolishing our previous record of 105 pints set in 1999. Of the 135 donors that walked through our doors, 24 were turned away due to medical reasons and approximately 20 were first time donors (mostly KCC students).

Since each unit of whole blood can be separated into three components, as many as 333 lives can be saved as a direct result of our efforts. The time and effort required to recruit and see the blood drive through to the end was substantial but worth it to give "the gift of life" to so many in our community.
