Internships Available In High Performance Computing

The Maui High Performance Computing Center (MHPCC) is seeking applications for four full-time paid internships which will be conducted during summer break 2010 at the Maui Research and Technology Park on the Island of Maui. Applications are being accepted from students of all colleges and universities of the UH system. The work could include support in areas such as Linux clusters, HPC system monitoring, 3D

Free Concert!

Everyone is invited to a FREE concert on Thursday, December 10 at 12noon in the Cafeteria! Singers from the MUS 201 Vocal Ensemble class, as well as faculty and staff members, will present a program of mostly Christmas choral music. Also on the program will be solo songs by students from the MUS 121B Voice Class.Greg Shepherd will direct and Sam Alfiler will accompany on piano. Come enjoy a great lunch from our fabulous Cafeteria menu as well as an hour of fun music! Come and go whenever you like! Hope to see you there!

KCC Library Talk: 12/7 by Don Heacock on Sustainable Fisheries in Kauai

Don Heacock, a crusader for environment preservation on Kauai and for education of students of all ages, will present a talk and powerpoint on "Sustainable Fisheries Management in Hawaii: meshing traditional Hawaiian and western resource conservation practices".   The presentation will be held in the Library on Monday, December 7th, from 12:00 - 1:30 pm.  It is free and open to the public.

Don Heacock is the Kauai district aquatic biologist for the Division of Aquatic Resources (DAR), Hawaii Dept. of Land & Natural Resources.The DAR's primary responsibility is to protect and conserve the state's living aquatic resources. 

Many of Hawaii's coastal fishery resources are in decline and the DAR has recently held public informational meetings to gather recommendations on how better to conserve and to restore depleted resources.

Please come and bring your questions about Kauai's coastal fisheries, which are environmentally, culturally and economically important!

iMovie Brown Bag Rescheduled

The iMovie '09 Brown Bag session originally scheduled on November 12 was interrupted by a fire alarm in Kuykendall Hall; the session has been rescheduled for Tuesday, December 1, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Anyone interested in learning about iMovie from presenter Kepano Kekuewa, Apple's Higher Education Account Executive for Hawaii, is encouraged to register for the session at http://www.hawaii.edu/training

Kekuewa uses this application extensively in his hobbies involving photography and video, he will cover the key concepts of importing, organizing and editing digital video projects. Attendees will also learn how to navigate the iMovie Library, use organizational tools like Events to archive footage for video projects, and basic editing techniques introduced in iMovie '08 and refined in iMovie '09 with tools such as the Precision Editor. Various options for exporting and sharing completed video projects through online hosting services and traditional DVDs will also be demonstrated.

Final 3 Brown Bags In 2009 Series Offered

Registration remains open for the final three Brown Bags sessions in the 2009 series of IT presentations offered by Information Technology Services (ITS). Brown Bags originate on the UH Manoa campus, and are broadcast live to HITS sites throughout the UH System and also on UH Manoa’s Campus Cable TV channel 67.
